Olympic gold and silver medalist Sha'Carri Richardson unveiled the newly named Sha'Carri Richardson Track at Kincaide Stadium in Dallas on Friday night. The track, where Richardson once competed during her time at Carter High School, now bears her name in large, white letters along with a display highlighting her accomplishments.
The unveiling took place during halftime of a football game between Wilmer-Hutchins and Richardson's alma mater, Carter High School. Richardson addressed the crowd with heartfelt gratitude, expressing her deep connection to Dallas ISD and the local community that shaped her.
"I'm proud to come out of the DISD," Richardson said, reflecting on her journey. "I ran on this track. I can say I started my career on this track. So, for it to be named after me now, it's an honor. But it shows that I have a responsibility to Dallas. Where I come from continues to support me no matter how far I go. And I will never, ever, ever let people forget where I come from."
Richardson, known for her unapologetically fierce attitude and pride in her roots, emphasized the importance of her hometown and its continued support in her life. Her passion for Dallas has earned her a loyal following across the city and North Texas.
"That's Dallas and that's where I get my heart. That's where I get my mindset and that's just where I get my joy from as well," she explained. "I'm gonna continue to represent very well. As long as you guys continue to show me the love that y'all have been showing me no matter what."
Richardson's track dedication not only honors her achievements but also underscores the deep connection she maintains with the city that launched her career, vowing never to forget where she comes from.
