Police Kill Victim Of Home Invasion Who Called 911 For Help

Las Vegas police are investigating a fatal incident where an officer shot and killed a home invasion victim who had called 911 for help. The tragedy unfolded early Tuesday morning around 12:40 a.m.

According to police, Brandon Durham, 43, contacted 911 reporting "multiple people outside his home shooting" and said someone had broken into his home through both the front and back doors. In the call, Durham explained he was locking himself in the bathroom and was inside the house with his 15-year-old daughter.

When officers arrived, they reportedly heard screaming from inside the home and observed damage to vehicles outside. After forcing their way in, officers encountered Durham struggling with Alejandra Boudreaux over a knife. Believing Durham to be the aggressor, a 26-year-old officer opened fire, fatally striking him. Boudreaux, however, was not hit by gunfire.

Subsequent investigations revealed that Durham was the homeowner defending himself against Boudreaux, who had broken into his home. Police stated the two "knew each other and had been in a relationship." Boudreaux was arrested and charged with home invasion with a deadly weapon, assault with a deadly weapon, child abuse, and domestic violence.

The shooting has raised questions about the officer’s decision to use lethal force. The officer, who joined the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department in 2021, is under investigation to determine whether his actions were justified.
