Philadelphia Police Officer Mark Dial To Be Terminated & Charged For The Murder of Eddie Irizarry

The Philadelphia District Attorney announced on Friday that police officer Mark Dial will be charged in the fatal shooting of Eddie Irizarry during a traffic stop last month. The decision comes after the public release of unedited body camera footage that captured the encounter.

Dail fired six shots into Irizarry's car through the rolled-up driver's side window just five seconds after exiting a police car. An unidentified voice outside the vehicle is heard threatening, "I will f**king shoot you!" just before the shots were fired. Eddie Irizarry, severely injured and unresponsive, was pulled out of the car and rushed to a hospital.

District Attorney Larry Krasner stated that Irizarry's family had requested the full release of the footage, which will serve as crucial evidence in the case. Officer Dial faces multiple charges, including murder, voluntary manslaughter, aggravated assault, simple assault, reckless endangering of another person, and official oppression. His bail was set at $500,000, and a preliminary hearing was scheduled for September 26.

Dial's defense attorney, Fortunato Perri Jr., asserted that Dial had acted in self-defense, believing that Irizarry was pointing a gun at him. It was reported that officers said that Irizarry lunged at police with a knife before he was shot and killed. The Philadelphia Fraternal Order of Police expressed full support for Officer Dial and urged the public to await the presentation of all evidence during the trial.
