Seventeen-year-old Mantavius “Lebron” Presley, a senior at Douglas County High School in Georgia, has been accepted into over 60 colleges and awarded more than $1.1 million in scholarships. His dream of becoming an anesthesiologist is one step closer to reality. “I'm just passionate about helping others, lending a helping hand whenever it is needed,” Lebron told Good Morning America. “You can always help somebody eat with just a word of inspiration, a smile or even a hug.”
Lebron began applying to colleges on August 1, 2024, targeting institutions with strong pre-med programs. His top choices include the University of Alabama, Morehouse College, Xavier University of Louisiana, Howard University, and Mercer University. Despite juggling dual enrollment courses, a part-time job at a pizza restaurant, and leadership roles in National Honor Society and Future Business Leaders of America, he applied to as many schools as possible. “When I was a little boy, I always said that I would go to the university… I always thought… I would just go off and do something amazing.”
Raised by his single mother, Chasity Green, Lebron credits her unwavering support for his success. “She is my biggest cheerleader,” he shared. “She’s just always willing to help me and be by my side and give me inspiration and guidance when I need it the most.”
His first acceptance came in October from the University of Alabama. Each offer since felt monumental. “I honestly did not know if I would get in… Every one that I got, I felt like it was a great accomplishment in life.”
Douglas County High School Principal Kenja Parks called Lebron “the million dollar man,” celebrating his “years of perseverance, passion, and purpose.” She added, “There is simply no word big enough to express our joy… He is an inspiration to all of us.”
To his peers, Lebron offers encouragement: “Grades don't define a person… You only get a high school experience one time… So just take it one day at a time.”
