Fisk University’s Morgan Price Becomes First Gymnast From HBCU To Score A Perfect Ten

Morgan Price of Fisk University made history at Temple University with a flawless bar routine, becoming the first gymnast from a Historically Black College or University (HBCU) to earn a perfect score in women’s collegiate gymnastics. Her 10.0 routine, performed during the third rotation of a tri-meet, showcased her signature clean skills and a stunning full-twisting double-back dismount. When the perfect score flashed, her ecstatic teammates rushed to celebrate with her.

The perfect 10 shattered Price’s previous career-best of 9.90 and capped off an extraordinary meet for the junior gymnast. Price dominated the competition, winning every event except beam and finishing with a career-high all-around total of 39.500, almost a full point ahead of her closest competitor. Reflecting on her achievement, Price told ABC’s Good Morning America, “I’m very honored to be on such an amazing team, being part of the first-ever HBCU gymnastics team and being the first HBCU gymnast to win [an] all-around national title. It really means everything to me.”

Price’s journey with Fisk has been nothing short of groundbreaking. As a freshman, she became the first HBCU gymnast to score a 9.90 on bars and went on to claim Fisk’s first all-around title at Georgia. Later that season, she earned USAG First-Team All-American honors. In her sophomore year, Price posted a 9.95 on beam—the highest score in HBCU history at the time—and made national headlines by winning the USAG All-Around title, becoming the first collegiate gymnastics national champion from an HBCU program.

Nearly a year after that milestone, Price continues to inspire. Competing for a historically Black institution has been a deeply meaningful experience for her. “I chose Fisk because it is the first HBCU with a gymnastics team. Growing up in gymnastics, I rarely had teammates who looked like me,” Price shared in her Fisk bio. “I wanted to be a part of history and inspire younger girls who want to attend an HBCU.”

Price and the Fisk Bulldogs will continue their historic journey at the Brown Girls Do Gymnastics Invite on February 16, facing Wilberforce University and Greenville University.
