Body Cam Shows Police Arresting Wrong Man

Darnell McCloud, owner of Fremont Coney Island, was arrested last week in a mistaken identity case, leaving him shaken and disappointed with his treatment. Bodycam footage from the Fremont Police Department reveals officers entered his restaurant on July 11, seeking a person with an outstanding drug trafficking warrant.

McCloud, a business owner for over five years, expressed his distress: "It's serious to me because I was humiliated at the time." He insisted on his innocence from the start, stating, "I was pleading my innocence from the beginning. All the way from the beginning, actually. To be taken all the way down to the county jail for no reason, it was very humiliating."

Tyler Karr, a friend from Fremont, criticized the officers' actions: "It's honestly bull what happened to him, and it should have never happened. They should have gone the right way, asked him his last name, asked for identification before they even took him to begin with." WTOL 11's review of the bodycam footage confirmed that officers never asked McCloud for his last name.

McCloud believes the situation could have been avoided with the proper procedure: "If they would have looked at, if they would have just walked in and took the time instead of just rushing and did his job correctly, I think we would not be here right now."

Although various organizations have reached out to McCloud, he is taking his time to process the incident: "Organizations have reached out to me, but I'm just taking it slow. It was a bad situation. I just don't want it to happen to nobody else."

Fremont police have not disclosed the identity of the person they were searching for, and the case remains under investigation. McCloud is considering legal action due to the incident.
